TrendSetters

Two years ago Pfavai McNab decided she was ready to follow her dream of starting her own business, so she quit her job and invested her savings and management expertise into getting her dream off the ground.

Having travelled around Europe and the Middle East, Pfavai was impressed with some of the hair and beauty salons she had visited and wanted to recreate something just as special in Southampton.  Although Pfavai had a clear idea in her head, she was keen to discuss it with someone to make sure that her ideas would transfer into a sound business venture.

Pfavai approached Rick, our SO14 Business Coach, and together they began to develop a thorough business plan and cashflow forecast, enabling Pfavai to see on paper how well her business idea might work and what investment it might need up front.

Whilst Pfavai continued to work on her business planning, she attended a fast track training course in London to gain the relevant qualifications.  Pfavai always remained true to her vision and spent a long time looking for the perfect location that would fit in with her idea.  Eventually, Pfavai found a property in the Bargate Centre, a prime central location, and began to refurbish it in line with her ambitions.

In August 2006, Pfavai opened the ground floor of TrendSetters Hair and Beauty, specialising in Afro and European hair extensions and retail products.  Pfavai employed two members of staff to run the business whilst she continued commuting to London to finish her course.  The ground floor had two salon chairs to the rear and the rest of the salon was dedicated to retail products and hair extensions.  As the business grew, Pfavai set more money aside to invest in refurbishing the upper floor, which would be dedicated to expanding the hairdressing side of the business. In April 2007 the upper floor was opened and Pfavai’s vision was finally realised.

Having run the business for nine months now, Pfavai commented, “The business is actually doing better than we had planned for, so I’m very happy with the way things have gone.  I would say you have to be quite dedicated and driven to get a business off the ground and I’m still working very long days to keep on top of things.”  She continued “It was vital to have a second opinion from someone like Rick, as he kept me going and encouraged me during the long planning process and I know he’s on hand whenever I need any advice or support now the business is off the ground.”

Open seven days a week, TrendSetters now employs nine members of staff, five of which are full time.

Commenting on Pfavai’s achievements, Rick said “When Pfavai came to me, she wanted to create a very classy, clean and high spec hair and beauty salon and was driven to doing so.  When I caught up with Pfavai, I sat back in the leather-massaging chair, where customers have their hair washed and treated, and realised I needn’t ask if she’d achieved her goal.”

You can visit TrendSetters, in the Bargate Centre, second floor, and see for yourself what Pfavai has achieved in the last year.  Or call to book an appointment at the salon on 023 8033 8976.
